MEMBERSHIP
- Purpose
- The LIAA’s sole purpose is to be a voice for its members with interested third parties, to the facilitate communication between members and to develop CPD courses and events which meet members specific ongoing educational needs.
- Professional registration and membership
- Membership is free, however, to benefit from the free membership, members agree to the following and to indemnify the LIAA and the members of its Board, without limit.
- Members are responsible for, as appropriate, maintaining a valid licence with the Immigration Advisers Authority or carrying a valid practicing certificate issued by the New Zealand Law Society.
- Where a members licence or practicing certificate lapses for any reason, their membership of the LIAA will also lapse.
- Where a member is under investigation and/or supervision by any professional body, it is the members responsibility to inform the LIAA without breaching client privacy, as to the reasons for the investigation/supervision. The LIAA reserves the right to suspend membership for any reasonable period it deems necessary to allow the investigation/supervision to be conducted/concluded.
- Where a member is found to be conducting themselves in a manner which is contrary to law, the members regulatory bodies code of conduct and/or a high level of professionalism, the Board of the LIAA may meet to discuss whether membership ought to be suspended or terminated. In such cases the affected member will be invited to comment prior to suspension or termination, however the Boards decision will be final.
- CPD/Events and refunds
- The LIAA will at its sole discretion offer CPD courses and other events to its members.
- The LIAA reserves the right to cancel any CPD course or event without notice.
- Where cancellation occurs, the LIAA reserves the right to withhold from the refund sufficient funds to cover its reasonable costs.
PRIVACY POLICY
Protecting member privacy is a commitment the LIAA makes to its members. How we collect, use, and disclose members personal data is governed by this Privacy Policy, in accordance with our obligations and your rights in the Privacy Act 2020.
As a member your use of this website is your consent to this Privacy Policy, and our use of your personal data in accordance with it.
We reserve the right to make reasonable modifications or amends to this Privacy Policy at any time and for any reason, with or without notice.
Members who are outside New Zealand acknowledge that only New Zealand law applies, and that any law relating to privacy in any other jurisdiction is not applicable.
- What data do we collect?
By using the LIAA website, you provide personal information (including your name, email address, and contact telephone numbers) to the LIAA which we will retain and use in accordance with this policy.
Where you engage with the LIAA directly, i.e. not through this website, information that you provide about yourself at that time is also covered by this policy.
- Using personal data
Unless required by the order of a New Zealand court, third parties will not receive your personal information and data.
How it is used includes:
- Membership applications and the processing thereof.
- Where members wish to share information with each other through the LIAA (i.e. member bios).
- Advising members with updates about the industry, CPD courses and/or events.
- Compliance with New Zealand law.
- As authorised by you.
- Storing personal data – how the LIAA does it and for how long?
Your personal data is stored electronically, including on the cloud, password protected, and accessible only by authorised people within the LIAA.
We do not hold your personal data any longer than absolutely necessary, and/or in accordance with our obligations under the Privacy Act 2020.
- Accessing and amending your personal data
Members have the right to access their personal data by contacting an LIAA board member, and we will provide you with copies of your personal data held by us.
